What You Need To Look For In A LED Bulb

Before you go and buy your next led bulb, stop for a second and breathe. There are some things you need to think about first. It’s not a safe bet to just go out and buy the first one you can get your hands on. It might look cool, but will it work the way you want it too?

Let’s take a look at some of the tips on how to buy the perfect led bulb.

1) The incandescent light bulbs are pretty much dead. Don’t even waste your time or money looking to get one. Why? The 100-watt traditional bulbs of 2012 were the first to go. They never met the newer efficiency standards. They might have years ago, but not anymore.

The others that are being tossed to the wind are the 40 and 60-watt bulbs which came out this year. The other one was the 75-watt bulb that came out last year. If you want, you could try going with fluorescents. However, they won’t be as good. Do yourself a favor and get the 194 LED bulbs.

2) Let’s compare a few things here in number two. The incandescents will only last you about a year. The CFLs will only last you about 5 years, nine if you are lucky. Most don’t even last that long.

The LED will last you about 20-some odd years, 22 to be exact. Now this is only if you use them each day for only three hours. In general, they only last 25,000 hours. When comparing them to the others, it’s a safer bet.

Let’s take a break from the list and look at the list.

1) LED–Uses about 80% less energy.

2) CFL’s— They use 75% less energy.

3) Halogens–They use about 30% less energy.

When push comes to shove, you are going to do better with LED lighting.

3) When you go to buy an LED it will cost you around $15-40 each. This price range has fallen in the last few years. With improved technology it will continue to fall. The other bulbs might be cheaper, but you run the risk of not having good quality. You also run the risk of the bulb being recalled in a year or so.

4) Look for a bulb that is “Energy Star” certified. Check in with your local retailer or manufacturer to see where they stand with this. Look for the LED bulbs that are included in the Lighting Facts program. There should also be a warranty. The warranty should be for about 3-5 years.

Always take time to research. Everything you buy is an investment, LED bulbs aren’t any different.
